Job Duties

The College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas invites nominations and applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor of Recreation and Sport Management in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation. We are seeking candidates who have a commitment to teaching and learning, as well as expertise in outdoor recreation, specifically in outdoor recreation tourism, sport tourism, or nature-based tourism.

This is a 9‑month, full‑time, non‑tenure‑track position with the possibility of summer teaching for summer pay. The Teaching Assistant Professor of Recreation and Sport Management will teach predominately online graduate courses in the Outdoor Recreation and Sport Tourism program but also have opportunities to teach in the on‑campus undergraduate and graduate Recreation and Sport Management programs; mentor undergraduate and graduate students as needed;

serve on master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation committees, and provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. Additionally, the faculty will serve as the Program Coordinator of the Outdoor Recreation and Sport Tourism online graduate program and will be responsible for recruiting and advising students. Consistent on‑campus presence and active engagement in departmental life are essential responsibilities, along with the ability to foster and maintain collegial and harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Adventure Tourism, Recreation Tourism, Sport Tourism, Nature-based Tourism, or related field conferred by the start of employment from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Evidence or promise of highly effective teaching.
  • Evidence or potential of service to the department, institution, and profession.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in the field of Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Adventure Tourism, Recreation Tourism, Sport Tourism, Nature-based Tourism, or a related field.
  • Experience in teaching graduate courses at the university level.
  • Evidence of effective student mentoring/advising.
  • Experience or interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Experience teaching in an online and/or hybrid program.
Salary Information

Commensurate with education and experience.
