Assistant Professor of Interior Design (South Dakota State University)
Bring your creative vision and design expertise to South Dakota State University! The School of Design invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Interior Design. We are seeking a collaborative educator with a strong foundation in interior design and specialized expertise in one or more content areas such as construction, materials, environmental systems, codes and regulations, or professional practice. The position is typically 60% teaching, 30% research, and 10% service.
This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a tenure-track, full-time position with benefits.

The School of Design includes accredited degrees in the visual arts: graphic design, studio arts and the built environment: architecture, interior design and landscape architecture. Collectively, School faculty form a collaborative teaching and research environment that values cross‑program and interdisciplinary initiatives. The successful candidate will contribute to building national and international stature and recognition for the discipline, School and University.
SDSU offers a 4‑year CIDA and NASAD accredited Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design degree. The mission of Interior Design is to prepare graduates for professional practice or advanced study in interior design through research‑informed, design‑thinking infused and practice‑based projects and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities- Teach courses within the professional curriculum, such as design studios, lectures, seminars, and workshops.
- Provide service to the discipline, university, and community.
- Teach in multi‑disciplinary courses within the School of Design.
- Conduct a research agenda with dissemination of peer‑reviewed products.
Starting salary $68,000, commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications- A degree in interior design from an accredited program, plus a PhD in a related field, by time of appointment.
- Potential to develop and teach academic coursework in one or more of the disciplinary content areas.
- Potential to conduct research with peer‑reviewed dissemination of products.
- Effective written communication skills.
- Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Evidence of teaching Interior Design at university level.
- Record of service within the discipline, profession, or community.
- NCIDQ certification.
