Ozark Compost & Swap is looking for a reliable, hardworking person to join our small (but growing!) team.
This is more than a driving job. You’ll spend most of your day independently running residential and commercial food waste pickup routes across Northwest Arkansas—but when the route is done, you’re part of the team that gets the whole operation across the finish line.
THE GIG- Monday-Thursday
- 6:45 AM-5:00 PM, with many days ending earlier depending on route volume
- Starting at $17/hour
- Every shift starts and ends at our shop in South Fayetteville
- Three-day weekend. Every. Single. Week.
A busy route can mean around 180 stops in a day, so this is active, physical work. You’ll get in and out of a Sprinter van throughout the day, carry food waste buckets, and work outside in Arkansas heat, cold, rain, and its beauty.
Most buckets weigh around 10-20 lbs., with occasional heavier loads. Applicants should be able to lift and carry up to 80 lbs.
WHAT YOU’LL DO- Safely and efficiently run residential and commercial pickup routes
- Load, unload, and properly prepare the van for each route
- Keep the van clean, stocked, and maintained
- Follow customer notes and document issues at pickups
- Provide friendly, professional customer service
- Help dump, wash, prep, and organize food waste buckets when time permits
- Learn our systems, ask good questions, and eventually solve everyday problems independently
- Look around, see what needs to be done, and jump in
We care less about having the perfect résumé and more about how you work.
You're reliable. You take initiative. You can work hard without someone standing over your shoulder. You're comfortable owning a mistake and learning from it. You work well with different personalities, take feedback, and understand that on a small team, my part is done doesn't always mean the work is done.
You’ll need a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, a smartphone for our routing app, reliable transportation to our South Fayetteville shop, and the ability to handle the job’s physical demands.
ROOM TO GROWOCS is quickly growing, and we expect our driving team to grow with it. For the right person, this position has the potential to develop into a leadership and training role as our team expands. There's no promised timeline - we'd rather be upfront about that - but we'd love to find someone who wants to grow with us.
- Four-day workweek
- Three-day weekends
- Paid holidays
- Generous paid holiday closures around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
- Employee discounts
- Opportunities for raises and bonuses
- A small team where good ideas can actually change how we operate
- The satisfaction of keeping a whole lot of food waste out of the landfill
