Technician C – Vehicle Maintenance Technician
Technician C requires average mechanical knowledge and performs most mechanical tasks assigned to them, including brakes, rotors, fluid exchanges, oil change, transmission, differential, cooling system maintenance, repairing and replacing tires and additional services (e.g. wiper blades, air filters, etc.). Technician C communicates with customers, educating them on necessary preventive vehicle maintenance. Additional duties may include courtesy services, tire repair and replacement services.
CompensationYou are paid an hourly rate and a commission percentage that is standard across the company.
Responsibilities- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with supervisory direction and factory standards.
- Diagnoses vehicle problems based on customer complaints and inspection.
- Examines assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Partners with the Center Manager if additional work is needed, if the work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Documents all work performed and recommended. Road tests vehicles as needed.
- Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies the manager immediately of any damage that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keeps the shop areas neat, clean and organized.
- Maintains and is accountable for all store-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
- Understands and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, and any SOP of the company guidelines and rules.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner. Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
- Participates in organization-sponsored training programs.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Minimum of two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine tickets, notes and other correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers.
- Valid Driver's License.
- State Emission Certification – if applicable in your state.
- State Vehicle Inspector Certification – if applicable in your state.
- Requires a toolbox with tools on site.
- Must sign a contract with the uniform policy and procedure plan.
- Ability to work in cramped places, such as underneath a jacked-up automobile or a lower bay.
- Upper body strength and stamina to effectively use hand tools like hammers and wrenches and to ensure that fasteners are properly secured.
- Fine motor skills to be able to work with small fasteners, such as nuts, bolts and washers.
- Vision:
Ability to read diagrams, manuals and emails. Often required to work with color-coded wiring. - Ability to work in fluctuating and sometimes extreme weather temperatures.
