Overview

This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) - Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN
6) - Fayetteville NC VA Health Care System (FNCVAHCS). The Neurologist provides expert consultation and treatment to patients referred to the outpatient and inpatient Neurology Service and collaborates with other Neurology Practitioners within the Neurology section. The Neurologist is accountable to the Chief - Medicine Service - for assuring the most effective delivery of care in Neurology while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.

Responsibilities include patient education, quality of care, and compliance with accrediting standards, with involvement in performance improvement, disaster preparedness, administrative duties, and other tasks as assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Service.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients referred to the outpatient and inpatient Neurology Service and provide feedback and consultation to other Neurology Practitioners within the Neurology section
  • Provide feedback and patient education to patients and their families; demonstrate excellence in patient care and meet or exceed compliance standards
  • Serve in outpatient general neurology consult and follow-up clinics; provide inpatient consultation to the acute medical and intensive care units
  • Perform consultative evaluations and treatments to patients referred from sections of the hospital and/or affiliated VA outpatient clinics
  • Enter accurate, complete, timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patients electronic record using the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Maintain and calibrate specialized equipment used in patient assessment and care; adhere to safety, health, and infection control standards
  • Supervise and teach Neurology Residents and medical students during their Neurology rotation
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness, and administrative duties as directed
  • Participate in credentialing and privileging processes as required by local VA requirements
Qualifications Basic Requirements
  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training:
    Physicians must have completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Must be board certified or board eligible

  • Physical Requirements:

    The incumbent must be able to perform all activities of the position without restriction
  • This position may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning; may involve stairs
Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan reimbursement program. Program approval and award amount (up to $200,000) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applicants should apply within four months of appointment.
