TRIO Programs - Peer Tutor

TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES (SSS) & TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES STEM & HEALTH SCIENCES – Fayetteville State University

Help fellow students succeed academically by providing one‑on‑one or small group tutoring under the supervision of the Coordinator/Counselor.

• Communicate frequently with Coordinator and/or other program staff regarding student progress and performance.
• Demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of student differences (diversity).
• Maintain proper records & documentation and confidentiality of information.
• Assess tutee status to determine areas of strengths/weaknesses.
• Schedule and conduct tutorial sessions, either one‑on‑one or small group tutoring.
• Maintain and document contact with assigned tutees.
• Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times and be a positive role model for students.
• Attend scheduled meetings, training sessions, workshops, seminars designed to enhance tutor/tutee experience.
• Other duties as directed by the Coordinator/Counselor.

• Must be an undergraduate or graduate student who has completed at least one semester.
• Have an average of A's or B's in the course subject that will be tutored.
• Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

• A basic knowledge of the subject(s) you desire to tutor.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work well individually and with a team.
• Knowledgeable about test preparation, study habits, and time management.

• Previous tutoring experience is preferred, but not required.
