Summary ofJob Duties
The Environmental Health and Occupational Safety Specialist III supports the Campus Safety Officer by implementing and managing occupational safety programs, conducting compliance inspections, and coordinating corrective actions across campus laboratories, shops, and studios. The role responds to accidents and unsafe conditions, performs root‑cause and hazard analyses,.failed. The role supports development, implementation, and monitoring of risk‑based control measures. It includes conducting indoor air quality assessments, supporting EHS regulatory inspection programs and construction project safety oversight, and managing sampling, monitoring equipment, documentation, data entry, and recordkeeping.
The position assists with safety training, communication, and committee support, collaborates with other EHS personnel on hazardous material, fire and life safety, and industrial hygiene tasks, and may require overtime, on‑call response, or other duties as assigned. It may also involve participation in the campus HAZMAT response team, requiring appropriate training, physical clearance, respirator fit capability, and the ability to wear SCBA and Level A protective suits.
Regular, reliable, and non‑disruptive attendance, as well as the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others, is essential.
Bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry, biology or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
At least five years of experience working in occupational health and safety or a related field.
At least three years of experience administering pumps institutional occupational safety regulations and providing safety program oversight.
At least three years of experience developing safety programs according to federal and state regulations (e.g., Confined Space, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication). maple leaf)
At least two years of experience.by collecting hazard exposure measurements and assessing hazards to help prevent harm to workers, property, the environment, and the public.
At least two years of experience developing accident prevention strategies and performing root‑cause analyses.
Valid Driver's License.
At least one year in a leadership capacity.
40hr HAZWOPER Training Certification.
OSHA 30hr General or Construction Certification.
