Polysomnographic Technician – Full-time Nights

Facility: Cape Fear Valley Medical Center

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina

Department: Sleep Center

Work Shift: Nights (United States of America)

Sign On Bonus: $7,500.00

Provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care, and education. Performs duties of a Polysomnographic Technician and may oversee other staff.

• Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient‑specific needs.
• Explain pre‑testing, testing, and post‑testing procedures.
• Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing, determine proper functioning, and adjust if necessary.
• Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
• Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and adjust if necessary.
• Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
• Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
• Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study‑tracing quality to ensure artifact‑free signals and adjust if necessary.
• Document routine observations including sleep stages, clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
• Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
• Score clinical events (respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) standards.
• Assist with routine equipment care, maintenance, and inventory evaluation.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an Associate’s degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of one of the remaining four eligible pathways identified by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (clinical experience, healthcare credential, focused training, or international option) required. BLS required.

• Frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk or hear; occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• May be exposed to chemical vapors such as acetone, ether, or glutaraldehyde and may contact these substances.
• May be exposed to infectious agents including blood‑borne pathogens.
