Assistant Director of Development - Law Development

Summary of

Job Duties:

The Assistant Director of Development (ADOD) for the Law School assists in planning and implementing stewardship and giving strategies to meet the annual fundraising objectives established by the Chancellor, Provost, Vice Chancellor and Dean.

The ADOD administers the Law School giving societies, the donor stewardship strategy and processes, gift acknowledgements, and donor communication under the oversight of the Director of Development and External Relations.

The ADOD coordinates special projects related to alumni engagement activities, major donor research, and assists with special events. The ADOD assists the director in planning and implementing donor-related activities, performs administrative duties as assigned, and adheres to University Development policies and procedures.

The ADOD administers and has oversight of the Academic Works scholarship program. This includes accounting functions and stewardship related to Foundation scholarships and development programs, including monitoring of foundation accounts; creation of new foundation accounts; communication with scholarship recipients; and assisting with drafting law school grant proposals, and the preparation of both routine and special reports.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least two years of full-time experience in development, sales, fundraising, or closely related work
  • Experience and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with volunteers and advisory boards
  • Experience in building donor/alumni relationships with stakeholders and individuals
  • Experience with UAConnect, Workday, Academic Works and Blackbaud Finance
  • Familiarity and experience with state and university procurement policies and procedures
  • Experience interpreting and tracking grants, programs, and scholarship budgets
  • Experience writing for varied audiences, including donors, alumni, and grantmakers
  • Graduate of the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville
  • Proven experience managing data and drafting executive correspondence and communications
  • Demonstrated energy and passion for major gift fundraising, the School, and the University
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skill
  • Strong organizational abilities and proven skill in building relationships with varied stakeholders, including alumni, donors, volunteers, faculty, administration, and other external stakeholders
  • Ability to follow-up effectively with prospects and donors
  • Ability to set and achieve goals and while working both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to perform well under the pressure of deadlines and fundraising goals
  • Capacity to collaborate with development leadership and directors to create high-level cultivation plans that meet ambitious fundraising goals
  • Successfully track, manage, and prioritize donor cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Experience in strategizing, writing, and editing grant proposals and reports
  • Developing and executing consistent communication with colleagues (e.g. activity reports, monthly check-in agendas, etc.)
  • Ability to work collegially with the Division of University of Arkansas Advancement and across university units
  • Ability to travel and work irregular hours as needed
  • Ability to represent the school and university in a highly professional manner
