Position Overview
Positions are located in the Economic Services Division. We are accepting Work Against applicants for this role.
This position is responsible for the administrative and technical supervision of staff of income maintenance caseworkers. The employee serves as the supervisor of a unit or sub-unit of an income maintenance program, which may involve all eligibility functions (i.e., intake, processing, review, etc.) or specific functions within the income maintenance programs. These programs could include, but are not limited to:
Food and Nutrition Services, Work First/TANF, Family and Children Medicaid, Special Assistance, Refugee Assistance, and Energy Assistance. The position may be located in sections such as Applications, Adult Medicaid, Recertifications, or Special Teams.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct daily supervision to staff, offering support, motivation, monitoring, evaluations, training, guidance, and team building to ensure quality service delivery. This is achieved through unit meetings, conferences, staffing, training sessions, evaluations, monthly quality assurance checks, and daily support to caseworkers.
Qualifications and SkillsThe candidate must be human services oriented, capable of positive interaction with customers, staff, supervisors, co-workers, and administration. The role requires openness to giving and receiving assistance. Additional duties as assigned include responding to disasters in accordance with departmental policy or upon declaration of a state of emergency.
Minimum Education & ExperienceThree years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or Investigator in an income maintenance program, preferably with one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a Human Services degree or equivalent, and three years of Income Maintenance Caseworker experience OR three years of Income Maintenance Caseworker experience in an NC DSS agency.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesConsiderable knowledge of income maintenance programs, forms, and eligibility determination documents. Knowledge of income maintenance manuals, NC Fast System, community services, and programs affecting customers. Good mathematical, reasoning, and computational skills. Ability to instruct, organize, supervise, communicate effectively, and present information orally and in writing.
Conditions of EmploymentThe selected applicant will undergo drug testing, law enforcement background checks, and must possess or obtain a valid North Carolina Driver's License. The position requires assisting in emergency/disaster situations. Compliance with dress code policies, including guidelines on tattoos and body piercings, is mandatory.
