Summary
Registered Nurse, RN plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
- Assess the patient and identify patient care needs
- Use patient assessment information to organize appropriate patient care
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Facilitate a safe environment
- Maintain required competencies
- Function as charge nurse as assigned
- Maintain an accurate and relevant record of patient care
- Administer medication as ordered by physician
- Recognize life‑threatening situations and respond appropriately
- Establish collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with other Health System staff and medical staff
- Monitor the quality of care based on pre‑established outcome‑oriented indicators
- Actively participate in cost containment and assist in accurate charging for patient services
- Adjust care based upon age‑specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients
- Support patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of medical regimen
- Other duties as assigned
- Associates Degree in Nursing required
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
- Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure
- The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a licensed 44‑bed Level III referral center for surrounding counties.
- Consists of 21 acute beds and 23 intermediate beds. NICU provides a comprehensive service to premature infants and any newborn requiring continuous assessment, technology, immediate intervention, or prompt treatment.
- Neonates/newborns are admitted from Labor and Delivery (L&D), Family Centered Care Unit (FCCU), Family Centered Care Nursery (FCCN), Emergency Department (ED) or transferred from a referral hospital.
- New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome!
- 1‑2 years of related clinical experience preferred
- Neonatal resuscitation
- Patient assessment
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
- Verbal and written skills required
- Demonstrates effective organizational and leadership skills
- Has knowledge of the age‑specific physiological and psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served
- Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
- Visual acuity for observation of patients
- Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
- BLS – American Heart Association
- RN – Board of Nursing
