Overview

Please join us at the Fayetteville VAMC as an LPN where you will perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veterans.

Responsibilities

Assists the Registered Nurse in the coordination of resident care activities with other departments by preparing for scheduled appointments/test/procedures.

Provides nursing care to residents, including feeding, bathing, shaving, wound care dressings, warm and cold compresses, suppositories, and administering enemas.

Reports, observes, and records physical and behavioral changes in resident's status.

Take and record resident blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, respiration, and collects specimens.

Provides and assists with lifting and positioning of residents, utilizing proper body mechanics, and lifting devices, as appropriate.

Assist the Physician, Nurse Practitioner, and/or Registered Nurse with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Follows policies and procedures of standard, universal precautions.

Applies external devices, safety devices, and other supportive devices, as indicated or prescribed for residents.

Responds to call lights in a timely and courteous manner.

Reports and records current observations, such as resident's physical conditions, variations in emotional responses, vital signs, and results of procedures.

Administers oral, topical, subcutaneous/intramuscular and intradermal medications, may calculate medication dosages, observe effectiveness of medications, and document findings in resident's record.

Demonstrates knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare, administer, and appropriately document actions taken specific to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous medications permitted by approved medical center policies and procedures.

Administers and records treatments such as ostomy irrigations, tracheotomy care, catheterizations, and internal tube feedings.

Initiates CPR in critical emergencies, until the rapid response team arrives to the department.

Performs oral and tracheal suction through mouth or established tube, such as tracheotomy.

Assists the RN with admitting, transferring, and discharging residents.

Reports and records potentially unsafe unit and patient activities/equipment.

Performs all other duties, as assigned, within the GS-6 LPN role.

Work Schedule

80 hours every 2 weeks - every other weekend: 7:45 pm–8:15 am and 1 tour 12 am–8 am.

Additional Information

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).

Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.
