This position performs security, traffic, and parking enforcement, as well as public contact work, in support of campus operations. The duties include securing, guarding, and protecting property and grounds by patrolling the interior and exterior of facilities and other campus areas on foot, in vehicles, or by other means. It also involves operating an access control point guardhouse: checking identification documentation for persons and vehicles entering the campus, logging in visitors, maintaining documentation of visitors and non-registered vehicles arriving, and denying access to persons and vehicles as required.
Additionally, the position guards against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards, monitors assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct, recognizes and reports unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations, provides information and assistance to the public, operates and maintains security, traffic, and parking enforcement equipment, and maintains related records and reports. The responsibilities require knowledge of standard safety, security, traffic, and parking enforcement practices and equipment;
a basic understanding of standard methods for reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances, fires, medical emergencies, and security threats; and knowledge of applicable policies, rules, and regulations. The officer maintains confidentiality and discretion, works individually and/or with others, adapts to change, and may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime. This position is essential and is required to report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters, and other emergency conditions, as well as during campus closings.
The role reports to the Property Security Supervisor. Other duties as assigned.
Perform traffic and parking enforcement, security, and public contact work in support of campus operations. Monitor use of parking facilities and traffic ways, issue citations, perform traffic control and direction, and provide information and assistance to motorists on campus.
Conduct guardhouse access control point operations, including checking identification documentation for persons and vehicles entering the campus, logging in visitors, maintaining documentation of visitors and non-registered cars entering the campus, providing information and assistance to visitors, and denying access to persons and vehicles as required.
Secure, guard, and protect property and grounds. Patrol the interior and exterior of facilities on foot, by vehicle, or by other means. Guard property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards; monitor assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognize and report unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations.
Operate and maintain security, traffic, and parking enforcement equipment; maintain related records and reports.
Provide escorts, transport personnel, and make deliveries. Supervise students, resolve complaints, and conduct investigations.

Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require a valid NC driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesTechnical Knowledge: Understands security enforcement practices. Knowledge and skill in CPR / AED use and basic first aid. Thorough understanding of the policies, rules, and regulations applicable to the property being guarded, sufficient to explain, apply, and enforce the policies, rules, and regulations. Displays organizational awareness and working knowledge of the infrastructure of the assigned area. Demonstrates proficiency in using a variety of security enforcement equipment, which may include radios, computers, and other electronic devices.
Knowledge of the University, department, and facility policies, rules, and regulations sufficient to interpret those policies, rules, and regulations in unique or unprecedented situations.
