Overview
Position Overview:
The Telecommunications Technician 1 is responsible for the installation of communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. As a technician, you should have experience installing basic equipment, using hand and power tools, and possess a basic understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints, and relevant codes and standards. Telecommunications Technicians are considered full-time employees with company benefits.
In this position, you will gain knowledge of Telecommunication Systems including OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Fiber Optic, and Structured Cabling. Additionally, each technician should strive to become a qualified BICSI Technician.
Core Market Sector:
Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience and knowledge in installing Low-Voltage systems across industries such as Healthcare, Government, Higher Education, Federal Aviation, and Mission Critical facilities.
Position Requirements & Responsibilities:
- Safe operation of hand and power tools, adhering to safety regulations.
- Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure using electronic devices.
- Sketch rack, floor, and wall elevations.
- Experience in terminating, testing, and troubleshooting Copper (Cat 5, Cat
6) cables. - Install various types of Low-Voltage Cabling.
- Understand installation, inspection, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting of ISP/OSP systems, including fiber optics and associated equipment.
- Lead cable installation from Telecommunications Rooms to work area outlets.
- Have a full set of tools prior to employment.
- Knowledge of color codes, TIA & EIA standards, and ability to label/test cables.
- Perform quality assurance checks on team’s work.
- Maintain a clean work environment and secure tools/materials daily.
- Install systems such as Backbone & Riser Cable, Plywood & Racks, Cable Trays, OSP & ISP, and Site Grounding.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%, including domestic and international travel.
Education, Experience & Technical
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in telecommunications installation, including OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, DAS, Fiber Optic, within diverse construction industries.
- Require a minimum BICSI Installer 1 certification for copper.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be 18+ years old with reliable transportation.
- Experience in complex markets like Federal & Government Facilities, Healthcare, Commercial, and Mission Critical.
- Ability to pass a basic telecommunications knowledge test.
- Ability to read plans and specifications.
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Reliable attendance and teamwork skills.
- Dress code: long pants and shirts covering shoulders (not provided).
- Provide basic tools prior to employment.
- Ability to obtain security clearance if needed.

Qualifications:
- Active Security Clearance
- Valid Passport and willingness to travel overseas
- BICSI credentials, including Technician
- Manufacture and Fiber Certifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office
Physical Abilities:
- Lift at least 100 pounds, 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocate a 12-foot ladder without help.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing scaffolds, lifts, ladders.
- Perform routine physical activities: walking, climbing, lifting, crawling, etc.
- Good vision (corrected), color vision, hearing, and communication skills.
- Use ladders and carry tools within weight limits.
- Recognize potential problems and report them.
- Apply rules to specific problems and draw conclusions.
