Senior Skilled Trades Technician – Parks, Recreation, and Maintenance
The City of Fayetteville’s Parks, Recreation & Maintenance department is recruiting a Senior Skilled Trades Technician to lead, oversee, and participate in complex maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction work for city buildings, facilities, park equipment, and fixtures. The role includes carpentry, painting, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing work, and may assume supervisory duties in the supervisor’s absence.
Job Responsibilities- Lead, plan, train, and review staff work that repairs city facilities, equipment, irrigation systems, appliances, and buildings, using carpentry, masonry, painting, concrete, welding, plumbing, irrigation, storm drain, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical repair techniques.
- Operate mechanical tools and equipment such as saws, drills, ditch witch machine, aerial lift truck, chip truck with dump, brush chipper, cutters, and hand tools for electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and maintenance tasks.
- Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs; project cost and requisition materials as needed.
- Maintain and repair city facilities and equipment, performing advanced skilled carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, air‑conditioning, and mechanical repair work.
- Install electrical circuits for city equipment and appliances—including lighting, air‑field lighting, receptors, HVAC, air compressors, welders, front‑end equipment, computers, scoreboards, gates, and garage door openers.
- Maintain, repair, and install plumbing fixtures and systems, including repairing flush valves, leaking toilets, broken pipes, unclogging drain lines, servicing and replacing backflow prev enters, and related activities.
- Execute advanced carpentry tasks such as repairing roof leaks, installing acoustic and drywall ceilings, installing windows and doors, replacing locks, constructing walls, preparing walls for painting, installing flooring and siding, and other related tasks.
- Participate in travel‑required activities, including off‑site inspections and repairs.
- Assist in designing, arranging, setting up, and disassembling electrical layouts for special events.
Required:
- Two years of experience in one or more building maintenance trades.
- Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training related to the area of assignment.
Licensing &
Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred:
- EPA Section 608 certification
- Backflow Inspector certification
- Backflow Rebuilding certification
- Playground Safety Inspector certification
- Pool Operator certification
- Forklift Operator certification
- Equipment Operator training
The selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4–6 weeks and will consist of a panel interview. The selected candidate will be subject to a pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and driving history check.
