Senior Quantity Surveyor - Highways Infrastructure
Featherstone, Wakefield | £70,000 dependent on experience + car allowance + private medical insurance
If you are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take greater commercial ownership across highways and civil engineering projects, this is an opportunity to join a business where your judgement, contract knowledge and commercial input will have a genuine impact.
You will receive a salary of £70,000, dependent on experience, alongside a car allowance, private medical insurance, life assurance and increasing annual leave. My client operates within the civil engineering and infrastructure sector, delivering projects with a strong focus on quality, commercial control and client satisfaction.
They are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor who can bring strong NEC contract knowledge, sound commercial judgement and a proactive approach to managing cost, risk and project performance.
Your roleAs Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of highways infrastructure projects from pre-contract stages through to final account.
You will work closely with operational, estimating and commercial colleagues to ensure projects remain commercially robust, contractual obligations are managed effectively and opportunities to improve margin and cash flow are identified.
- Working closely with the Pre-Contract Manager to identify and support new opportunities
- Liaising with estimators to support competitive pricing while protecting margin objectives
- Responding efficiently to client requests during pre-contract stages and supporting a smooth transition into project delivery
- Feeding lessons learned from live projects back into future estimates and tenders
- Managing project cash collection, including applications for payment and resolving client queries
- Managing change control, including preparing and agreeing compensation events and maintaining CE registers and/or CEMAR
- Identifying cost-saving opportunities and supporting value engineering initiatives
- Producing project budgets, forecasts and commercial reports in collaboration with operational teams
- Supporting project teams to deliver works efficiently and within agreed budgets
- Reviewing contract terms and identifying commercial and contractual risks
- Supporting contract negotiations and managing documentation including bills of quantities, scopes of work and terms and conditions
- Ensuring contractual obligations are understood and appropriately managed
- Supporting the resolution of commercial disputes and claims where required
- Monitoring project performance and advising on variations, compensation events and changes in scope
- Managing project cash flow, invoicing, interim valuations and final accounts
- Providing clear financial and commercial reporting to senior management, highlighting risks, opportunities and project performance
- A BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, or an equivalent qualification
- Strong Quantity Surveying experience within civil engineering or infrastructure
- Good working knowledge of construction contracts, particularly NEC forms of contract
- An understanding of estimating from first principles
- Experience commercially managing highways infrastructure projects would be highly beneficial
- Strong contract administration, cost management and commercial reporting skills
- The ability to build productive relationships with clients, operational teams and other stakeholders
- A proactive, organised approach to commercial risk and project delivery
- Salary: £70,000, dependent on experience
- Car allowance
- 25 days' annual leave, increasing by 0.5 days per year to a maximum of 28 days
