We are seeking three dedicated Specialist Support Assistants to join a thriving secondary resource provision in Featherstone. These roles involve supporting students with autism to access learning in a calm, structured and nurturing environment. You will work closely with teaching staff, intervention leads and pastoral teams to promote independence, emotional regulation and positive engagement across the school day.
Key Responsibilities Form Time Support- Meet and greet students positively and help them settle for the day
- Support equipment, planner and uniform checks
- Encourage students to organise the correct books and materials for lessons
- Assist with morning tasks when required and promote independence in reading
- Engage in games and activities appropriately when invited
- Use non-verbal cues and positive routines to support smooth transitions to lessons
- Escort students safely and calmly through corridors, maintaining awareness at all times
- Settle students quickly with equipment and planner ready
- Support with writing dates, titles and organisation in workbooks
- Deliver personalised support based on One Page Profiles and strategies provided
- Promote independence, resilience and on-task behaviour
- Follow teacher instructions and maintain silence during explanations
- Use positive direction and clear warnings before issuing sanctions
- Call for support if behaviour escalates beyond expected strategies
- Take supportive notes to assist with follow-up work
- Collect and return work for students who are absent or leave lessons early
- Follow direction from intervention leads and contribute appropriately
- Participate in structured social games to build relationships
- Reinforce that interventions are compulsory and ensure full participation
- Support colleagues in maintaining a calm, quiet environment during dismissal
- Use non-verbal cues to support regulation
- Offer positive reinforcement and praise
- Maintain professionalism and warm communication as students leave
- Use staff time for reflection, regulation and team support
Report serious concerns to the DSL immediately and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Use professional judgement to support dysregulated students safely
- Call for assistance when needed and avoid overcrowding a student in crisis
- Maintain safety, empathy and calm communication
- Ensure duty of care at all times until further support arrives
- Competitive daily rate of £12.07 £ 14.43 per hour
