Position Summary
The para educator in the Social Emotional Behavioral (SEB) core program performs instructional/tutorial assignments, student supervision, clerical tasks, and may carry out health‑related procedures under the general supervision and direction of a certificated teacher, specialist, or principal. The SEB program focuses on students with identified disabilities who demonstrate primary learning needs in the social‑emotional skills domain. Paraeducators plan their work with the supervising teacher, and planning time is set aside when required by program regulations or the supervising teacher and principal.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - Shift Times:
Monday‑Thursday 8:30 am to 3:15 pm and Fridays 8:30 am to 2:15 pm. These times include a 30‑minute unpaid lunch and a 15‑minute paid break. - Days per Year: 180
- Provide support to the classroom teacher for tasks specific to the special assignment within legal and program parameters.
- Work directly under the supervision of a certificated teacher or specialist and follow all directions given by the student program.
- Instruct individuals or small groups; supervise groups for periods of time.
- Perform clerical tasks.
- Perform health‑related procedures as needed, including hygiene issues, and administer special programs and tests when properly trained.
- Maintain cooperation and flexibility to adjust to changing educational program needs.
- Practice safety and security, including behavioral de‑escalation techniques and crisis management.
- Transport students in the school district van.
- Prepare and order meals.
- Perform instructional clerical tasks.
- Work collaboratively with district staff and promote teamwork with co‑workers.
- Assist the substitute teacher with helpful information pertinent to the classroom.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Required educational qualification: AA degree, or high school diploma (or equivalent) with 48 college‑level semester credits or 72 college‑level quarter credits, or high school diploma (or equivalent) and passage of the state‑approved para educator assessment test.
- Proficient in basic spelling, math, and grammar skills.
- Experience and/or training in reading instruction, remediation, and assessment.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Complete the district’s para educator core competency requirements.
- Washington State driver’s license.
- Possess and maintain a Type II driver’s license.
- Possess and maintain a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) certificate.
- Successfully complete the FWPS district‑approved Right Response training at the advanced level at the next available time; maintain current certification at the advanced level through yearly recertification.
- Possess and maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR and first‑aid training.
- Travel with students as required.
- Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis.
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
- Individual education plans (IEPs).
- English grammar and spelling.
- Basic math.

- School Board policies.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of modern technology and willingness to increase proficiency.
- Work independently and collaboratively, fostering a team approach when appropriate.
- Maintain a good attendance record, be punctual, and follow district procedures for reporting absences.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and commitment to students.
- Practice safety and security in work routines.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and service providers.
- Follow written and verbal directions with minimal supervision.
- Speak, read, and follow written communications in English.
- Perform basic spelling, math, and grammar skills.
- Work with students exhibiting special emotional, academic, and social needs, including violent behavior.
