Cardiac Sonographer

Job Summary

Prepare patients, perform ultrasound tests based on physicians’ orders and department protocols, and provide high‑quality diagnostic information while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Explain procedures to patients, respond to questions, and review medical records for pertinent history.
  • Utilize equipment and accessories, employing techniques to comfort and protect the patient while ensuring consistent results.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and cleaning per manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Deliver patient care to all age groups while performing ultrasound exams, procedures, and special procedures.
  • Act as liaison between patient and physician.
  • Perform basic patient‑care functions and respond to emergencies within scope of authority.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and advise nursing staff of significant changes during procedures.
  • Review and compile clinical data for physician interpretation and ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Perform incidental office duties—including answering phone, scheduling, filing, maintaining records, and ordering supplies.
  • Participate in ordering and inventorying equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and effective communication with diverse patient populations.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Shift & Hours

Full time (PRN) – Days shift, no more than 40 hours per week.

Pay

$47.86 – $74.26 per hour.

Job Requirements
  • Education/Experience – Graduation from an accredited diagnostic ultrasound/echo sonography program; one year of post‑graduate cardiac ultrasound experience preferred.
  • Job Knowledge & Abilities – Knowledge of diagnostic sonographic principles, equipment operation, regulatory requirements, department protocols, medical terminology, and cardiac examination techniques; ability to perform procedures in compliance with standards and to assist physicians.
  • Demonstrated organization, time‑management, and communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Licensure & Certification
  • Current registration by ARDMS or current certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
  • Current healthcare provider BLS certification.
