Overview
Position: Wrestling - Ratio Coach
Location: Illahee Middle School
Hours: 2.0 hours per day, season stipend between $3,313 and $3,995 DOE;
Days:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday;
Shift times: 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm; 34 days per year;

Responsibilities- Professional Development and Leadership:
The assistant coach will stay current with sport-specific literature and attend clinics/workshops. - Rules and Regulations:
Will study and understand rules for the sport, the WIAA, the district, and the league in which the team competes. - Program Promotion:
Promote the sport within the school and encourage student participation. - Program Organization:
Conduct daily practices; absences should be illness or emergency and cleared in advance by the building athletic director; the head coach cannot excuse an assistant. - Standard of Care:
Model safety training, have working knowledge of basic athletic training skills, and perform basic taping and first aid as directed by the head coach. - Professionalism:
Exercise good judgment, foster positive coaching behaviors, and contribute to leadership, skills development, teamwork, and a calm, fair-minded approach. - Sportsmanship and Ethics:
Model ethical behavior, good citizenship, and humility; handle obstacles with grace and dignity. - Supervision:
Responsible for participants from reporting time to departure time. - Rules/Regulations Presentation:
Understand and reinforce eligibility requirements, participation rules, and the District Eligibility Code as directed by the head coach. - Eligibility Attention:
Ensure each participant completes the eligibility process before practice. - Accident/Injury Procedure:
Call 911 for serious injuries; submit an Accident Report Form within 24 hours; report emergencies to the building athletic director and director of athletics. - Meetings:
Attend building, district, and league meetings. - Facility and Equipment:
Report safety concerns and care for equipment and facilities used in the program. - Violations/Ejections:
Report violations/ejections immediately following the contest to the head coach, building athletic director, and director of athletics. - Coach Evaluation:
Attend an evaluation meeting with the building athletic director after the season. - Program Leadership:
Meet with the head coach before the season to set goals and ensure consistent instruction of fundamental skills and strategies. - Equipment, Supplies, and Inventory:
Responsible for program equipment and supplies; account for items checked out at the start of the season. - Program Purchases:
Request essential program needs through the head coach; not to purchase with personal funds. - Fundraising:
Coordinate with the head coach on fundraising and obtain advance approval from the building athletic director before handling funds. - Other Duties:
Perform related duties as assigned to support student learning objectives.
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; one year of sport-specific playing/coaching experience; demonstrated ability to present drills, safety factors, and proper skill application. - ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Consistent scheduled work hours. - PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three+ years of paid middle/high school or post-secondary coaching experience; completion of NFHS Coaching Fundamentals Course (including the test). - CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: 21+ years old; criminal background clearance;
First Aid and CPR certification (hands-on); online concussion training; note: applications may be submitted prior to FA/CPR/CT completion; training may be in progress. - KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
Knowledge of WIAA/NFHS rules, record keeping, district policies; ability to organize and oversee a sport program; work independently with attention to detail; effective communication; safety focus; collaborate with district staff; uphold ethical standards and confidentiality; relate well to a diverse community. - PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly sit, stand, and walk; frequent use of hands; lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally; vision requirements described. - WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor work with varying surfaces; moderate to loud noise. - WORK SCHEDULE:
Varies; work days depend on the sport schedule. - REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to Building Athletic Director. - REPRESENTATION:
Federal Way Education Association represents Federal Way School Coaches. - LEVEL OF COMPENSATION:
Based on the FWCEA Salary Schedule for coaches.
This position is generated due to increased student participation and is for the 2025-26 season only. Positions must be re-applied for as needed. Pay is based off the current year Assistant Coach Salary schedule. This description is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.
