Position Type: Athletics/Activities/ Head Coach

Location: Thomas Jefferson High School
Hours per Day: 3 hours per day; $5,331 - $7,085 DOE
Days of the Week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Shift Times: 2:30-5:30 with evenings on meet days and may be the occasional weekend.
Responsibilities- Professional Development and Leadership. The head coach will stay current with sport-specific knowledge by reading literature and attending clinics/workshops.
- Responsibility for Rules and Regulations. The head coach will study and understand rules and regulations of the sport, WIAA, Federal Way Public Schools, and the league.
- Program Promotion. Promote the sport within the school and community; report scores/contest information to designated media and the league website after each contest.
- Program Organization. Hold daily practices, work with the building athletic director to organize/schedule practices, and determine the system of play for the program.
- Standard of Care. Provide safety training to participants and assistants; maintain safety records; have working knowledge of basic athletic training skills and first aid; basic taping.
- Professionalism. Exercise good judgment, shape student-athlete development, teach fundamentals, leadership, teamwork; maintain an even keel, calm, positive approach.
- Sportsmanship and Ethics. Model ethical behavior, humility, and good citizenship at all times.
- Supervision. Oversee program participants from their report time to their departure.
- Presentation of Rules/Regulations. Explain eligibility requirements, participation rules, and the District Eligibility Code during the first week of practice.
- Attention to Eligibility Rules. Ensure each participant completes eligibility before practice participation.
- Accident/Injury Procedure. Call 911 for serious injuries; submit an Accident Report within 24 hours; report emergencies to the building athletic director and director of athletics.
- Media Contact. Report scores promptly and accurately to local media and the league website after events; maintain responsibility for all reporting for home/away contests and non-league tournaments/post-season events.
- Meeting Attendance. Attend required meetings with building/district/league/rules clinics as scheduled.
- Post-Season Awards Gathering. Work with the building athletic director to obtain approval for post-season gatherings.
- Scheduling. Provide scheduling recommendations; do not schedule own contests except weather-related make-up games.
- Playing Facility and Equipment. Monitor facility condition, report safety concerns, and care for equipment and facilities.
- Violations and Ejections Procedure. Report violations/ejections to the appropriate athletic directors immediately following contests.
- Program Cut and Awards Criteria. Develop criteria for program cuts and awards; pre-approve criteria with the building athletic director and share with participants/parents.
- Seasonal Summary Sheet and Coach Evaluation. Attend evaluation meeting after the season and present a program inventory.
- Head Coach as Program Leader. Lead and meet with assistants; submit program goals and expectations annually ahead of the season.
- Camps and Clinics. Seek advance approval for camp/clinic programs involving FWPS players/coaches/facilities.
- Travel. Seek advance approval for travel; follow policy; travel within the Northwest with no school time lost.
- Financial and Equipment. Oversee equipment, supplies, and inventory; complete annual inventory; recover and manage equipment; maintain itemized and identified gear; coordinate repairs/storage/cleaning post-season.
- Annual Budget Request. Prepare and submit an annual budget with current inventory by the deadline each spring.
- Fundraising Activities. Obtain advance approval for fundraising and complete required paperwork per district guidelines.
- Other Responsibilities. Perform duties as assigned to support student learning objectives.
