Overview
Full-Time Transportation and Sustainability Planner with focus on transportation, Safe Routes to School, active transportation, scenic byways, and clean energy/energy efficiency programs. Provides technical assistance, identifies opportunities, and ensures project delivery in alignment with contract requirements and Scopes of Work. Collaborates with public officials, community members, clients, and partner organizations to advance sustainable and equitable solutions.
Starting salary range: $60,831 – $73,000
This position is supported by soft funding from multiple sources, and its continuation is dependent on the ongoing availability of such funds. We aim to offer fair and equitable compensation that reflects experience, skills, alignment to our mission, and other factors.

Exempt, full time, 40 hours per week
Location:
Fergus Falls with in-person meetings and events in Clay, Becker, Wilkin, Traverse, Stevens, Pope, Grant, Otter Tail, and Douglas Counties and White Earth Nation.
Reports to:
Director of Transportation Planning
Review:
After 90 days, then annually
Responsibilities:
- Furthers the development of the region through intergovernmental cooperation, community development, sustainable development, long-range planning, and technical assistance.
- Demonstrates subject-matter expertise in sustainable development principles and can explain connections between those principles and planning challenges faced by communities.
- Takes a lead role, with support from the Director of Transportation Planning, in developing Safe Routes to School, Scenic Byway, and related plans.
- Takes a team role, with support from the Director of Climate and Sustainability Programs, in supporting efforts to increase climate resilience, clean energy production, and energy efficiency across the region.
- Assists in implementing and tracking progress of goals identified in previous Safe Routes to School plans.
- Provides technical assistance to local units of government and others applying to state and federal programs.
- Assists communities in determining needs and priorities and in securing funding for projects.
- Coordinates with Ameri Corps members on Safe Routes to School planning and climate and sustainability programs.
- Gives public presentations regarding projects and responds to requests for information and assistance; disseminates pertinent information to the public, government officials, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Related bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
