Process Engineer III at Eichleay, Inc.
Full‑time hybrid role based out of the Ferndale, WA office (office 3 days a week, Tues‑Thurs). Competitive compensation and benefits including medical, 401K match, Health Savings Account contributions, paid time off and holidays.
Compensation$115,000 – $150,000 per year (anticipated salary may vary based on experience, skills and internal equity).
Key Responsibilities- Apply chemical engineering principles to complete process engineering tasks with minimal supervision.
- Assist in preparation of engineering project proposals, budgets and schedules.
- Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, line and tie‑in lists.
- Produce process engineering calculations such as pressure drop and equipment sizing.
- Develop process data sheets for stationary and rotating equipment (pressure vessels, tanks, separators, filters, heat transfer equipment, pumps, compressors).
- Evaluate equipment over pressure scenarios and relief systems, including PSV sizing per API 520 Part I/II and API 521.
- Perform utility sizing calculations and utility system analysis.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) sessions.
- Review vendor drawings to ensure design accuracy and compliance with specifications.
- Interface with mechanical, piping, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, automation, and architecture disciplines to ensure coordinated design and complete engineering deliverables.
- Work through all project phases from feasibility studies, conceptual design, detailed design to construction support.
- Provide construction support activities including responding to submittals and RFIs.
- Consistently achieve goals, deliver quality work and meet timelines, including reviewing project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
- Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety and environmental issues; address those issues as necessary to ensure zero harm to all employees, clients and contractors.
Experience:
Minimum 5+ years in process engineering for refinery or oil & gas related industries.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (BSChE) from an ABET‑accredited program.
Location:
Ferndale, WA office; hybrid role with an expectation of 3 days in the office per week (Tues‑Thurs).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare reports, describe design conclusions, deliver presentations and analyses.
- Proven ability to develop PFDs and P&IDs.
- Simulation experience using HYSYS, PRO/II or comparable process simulation software.
- Experience developing process datasheets for stationary and rotating equipment.
- Sound knowledge of API, ASME and ANSI standards.
EIT/PE preferred but not required.
CollaborationAbility to form and foster collaborative relationships within Eichleay and with clients and partners.
TravelFrequent travel required to nearby refinery sites.
Preferred Skills & Experience- Knowledgeable in refinery and/or chemical plant unit operations.
- Professional Engineer (PE) Certification preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued learning and education through participation in internal or external training opportunities.
- Ability to work effectively in a schedule‑driven environment where timing is critical.

- Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history and driving record verification.
- Participation in random drug and alcohol programs.
- May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear; distinguish colors and use fingers for tools, temperature or controls.
