Position:
Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Range: $49,764-$89,318 annually with employer-paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience
Terms of Employment: 9 months, 185/189 day schedule
FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT; this is a salaried position assigned to the Licensed Employee Salary Schedule.
Position SummaryThe Speech-Language Pathologist provides diagnostic, remedial, and consultative services for students with receptive/expressive communication disorders. The SLP participates as a member of the special services and academic multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Identify children with speech or language impairments.
- Diagnose and appraise specific speech or language impairments.
- Refer for medical or other professional attention necessary for habilitation of speech or language impairments.
- Provide speech and language services for habilitation or prevention of communicative impairment.
- Counsel and guide parents, children, and teachers regarding speech and language impairments.
- Follow approved therapy guidelines as established by the State, the District, or the School.
- Evaluate goals and modify Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) when necessary.
- Develop and execute therapy strategies to guide progress toward long-range goals.
- Coordinate therapy with other disciplines and reinforce learning within therapy.
- Plan for and participate in professional development and apply current best practices in the field.
- Screen students (kindergarten through twelfth grade) to identify potential speech and language issues; screen for hearing problems when required.
- Provide diagnostic evaluations for students selected from screenings or referrals (areas may include receptive/expressive language, articulation, voice, fluency, auditory perception, and hearing).
- Use evaluation results to prepare IEPs for remediation of speech and/or language problems.
- Provide clear, concise directions and timely feedback to students.
- Monitor and adjust lesson pace to promote student success and align with IEP goals.
- Establish objectives and communicate them to students; select strategies that enhance participation and thinking skills.
- Incorporate students’ interests to promote engagement and learning.
- Assess progress at the end of each session and use data for future planning.
- Assign and monitor homework when appropriate as an extension of therapy.
- Use positive reinforcement and motivational strategies; encourage self-direction and responsibility in students.
- Create a supportive therapy atmosphere and respect students’ rights and viewpoints.
- Maintain professional communication and collaborate with families, teachers, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Respect school rules, policies, and maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Provide instruction to elementary students in classrooms and large groups, guiding learning toward curriculum goals.
- Support diverse and at-risk student populations to meet individual needs.
- Assist students with exploring college, university, career options, scholarships, and financial aid information as appropriate.
- Facilitate parent and student conferences with teachers.
- Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school counseling program by data analysis.
- Work with staff and administration to maintain an effective counseling program.
- Attend required meetings and ongoing professional development; maintain professional competence.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Education:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. - Licenses and
Certifications:
