Overview
Fernley Intermediate Speech Therapist 2025/26 — Lyon County School District. This role involves providing diagnostic, remedial and consultative services for students with receptive/expressive communication disorders and participating as a member of the special services and academic multidisciplinary teams.
Position:
Speech Therapist (Speech-Language Pathologist, SLP)
Employment terms: 9 months, 185/189 day schedule.
FLSA status: NON-EXEMPT; this is a position on the Licensed Employee Salary Schedule.
Compensation:
Range $49,764–$89,318 annually with employer-paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience.
Location:
Fernley, NV (Fernley Intermediate)
- Identify children with speech or language impairments.
- Diagnose and appraise specific speech or language impairments.
- Refer for medical or other professional attention as needed for habilitation of speech or language impairments.
- Provide speech and language services for habilitation or prevention of communicative impairment.
- Counsel and guide parents, children, and teachers regarding speech and language impairments.
- Follow approved therapy guidelines as established by the State, the District, or the School.
- Evaluate goals and modify Individualized Educational Plans when necessary.
- Develop and execute appropriate therapy strategies to guide progress toward long-range goals.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to reinforce therapy within broader educational plans.
- Plan for and participate in professional development activities and utilize courses, readings, in-service training, and conferences.
- Identify potential speech and language problems through screenings (kindergarten–12th grade) and, where required, assess hearing concerns via screenings or referrals.
- Provide diagnostic evaluations and prepare an Individual Educational Plan for remediation of speech and/or language problems.
- Communicate clearly with students and provide timely feedback on progress and next steps.
- Monitor and adjust lesson pace to meet objectives and promote student success.
- Utilize appropriate therapeutic approaches and materials to meet individual EIP/IEP needs.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff to implement classroom adaptations and support student goals.
- Maintain professional competence and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Uphold professional ethics and confidentiality according to district and legal requirements.
- Report results of evaluations, therapy goals, and progress to parents and administrators through conferences, reports, or calls.
- Education:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. - Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada Department of Education license and be certified in the relevant area; ASHA certification preferred but not mandatory. - Experience:
Relevant experience as an SLP in educational settings is typical, though not explicitly stated in this description.
