Mortgage Field Services Inspector

FAR Inspections is looking for highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders.

Independent contractors earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income and enjoy a flexible schedule. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required, but an ability to manage time and meet deadlines is crucial.

Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties. The purpose of the property inspection is to verify occupancy and report the general condition of the property using a mobile application.

Most inspections are exterior only. About 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.

We contract with inspectors at a county level. Inspectors are responsible for completing all inspections in their county and may split the county with another inspector if volume warrants it.

• Complete a short application within 5‑6 minutes for each type of inspection.
• Finish the inspection within 4 days after assignment.
• Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
• Take at least 9 photos of the property with brief comments.
• Complete a short form in the mobile app.
• Drive extensive periods while making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.

• Reliable vehicle with good fuel economy (you pay for your own gas).
• Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
• Printer.
• Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.

This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate that varies by county and volume. You can earn the equivalent of $30‑$40 per hour. Depending on the county and urban or rural setting, you may complete anywhere from 20 to 500 inspections per month while working 2‑30 hours per week. There is no set monthly requirement; the work is consistent month‑to‑month.

Earn more by establishing a reputation, offering greater availability, or covering a larger territory.

No additional mileage reimbursement beyond the flat fee per inspection.
