Brooksource is seeking an entry‑level Distribution Designer to join our engineering consulting client’s growing Indiana team. With anticipated workload increases across the region, this group is expanding and looking for someone who brings strong problem‑solving skills, a technical/engineering mindset, and the ability to learn quickly in a hands‑on environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who has worked in the field (utilities, construction, telecom, electrical, etc.) or who has a 2‑year technical degree and enjoys analytical, detailed work. You will receive structured training, work closely with both technicians and designers, and support high‑impact projects.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities- Complete structured onboarding that includes 1‑2 weeks of field shadowing to build foundational understanding of utility equipment, poles, circuits, and distribution basics.
- Learn key design software tools such as Spida Calc and Catapult used to model, analyze, and plan distribution lines.
- Support the design of electrical distribution systems by determining how energy should be routed safely and efficiently to customers.
- Review field data, pole information, and equipment details to create accurate distribution designs.
- Apply problem‑solving to identify the best path for new or upgraded lines, ensuring compliance with standards and safety requirements.
- Work closely with technicians, other designers, and your supervisor to understand project requirements and translate field conditions into digital design models.
- Early career talent interested in growing within utilities or engineering design.
- Experience working in the field (utility, construction, electrical, cable, etc.) OR a 2‑year technical degree.
- Naturally curious, asks good questions, and has strong critical thinking skills.
- Comfortable learning technical concepts and software on the job.
- Can work independently once trained but collaborates well within a small team.
- Open to travel for the first few weeks of onboarding/training.
- Hands‑on training followed by meaningful design work.
