The X-Ray Technologist prepares patients for x-ray, including positioning the patient correctly and operating x-ray equipment. Individuals in this role are responsible for making patients feel comfortable during the procedure and protecting staff and patient from radiation exposure.
Responsibilities- Prepare patients for radiological procedures, communicate the process to the patient and take x-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.
- Use and maintain a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials.
- Evaluate and ensure equipment is in working order, reporting all malfunctions or concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Process and enter radiological procedure information into electronic health record as soon as completed and provide additional reports and information as needed.
- Evaluate and maintain examination rooms to ensure rooms are clean and stocked, including ensuring necessary medical and radiological supplies are filled; sterilize and clean room and equipment as required by standard procedures.
- Places a high priority on and maintains strict confidentiality in all situations.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains applicable professional affiliations and certifications as required.
- Attends and participates in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Completion of a course in Radiological Technology approved by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists. Must maintain certification with the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (AART) and an active Indiana State license.
Working Conditions/Physical RequirementsWorking environment is in enclosed space with radiologic equipment. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work requires standing for long periods of time. Job requires excessive amounts of walking, stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting to help position patients and equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
Lifts patients weighing up to 300 pounds, placing them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires manual and finger dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.) and radiologic equipment. Requires eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of radiologic equipment.
