Overview:

Stratosphere Quality is seeking experienced Product Quality Engineers on a flexible contract basis. This role focuses on developing and implementing quality management strategies, conducting audits, and driving improvements across various locations in North America. We have multiple short and intermediate term opportunities throughout the year, and we are looking to increase our pool of qualified candidates to fill them on a voluntary case by case basis.

These positions are ideal for a retired or semi-retired Quality Engineer looking for sporadic deployment opportunities.

Essential Job Function

Job Duties:

  • Provide on-site quality engineering support to clients across North America.
  • Conduct audits and assessments of manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures, inspection methods, and testing protocols.
  • Analyze quality data to identify root causes of issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Train and guide client personnel on quality management best practices.
Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

Candidates should have knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) including ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, and ISO 13485 standards. Experience in conducting supplier audits for compliance and quality standards is essential, as is the ability to improve supplier processes and quality performance. Understanding supply chain principles and collaborating with procurement, engineering, and manufacturing teams is crucial. Strong communication skills with OEMs and suppliers, along with familiarity with quality assurance techniques like incoming inspection and SCARs, are required.

Proficiency in statistical tools for analyzing quality data (SPC) and skills in identifying root causes using techniques such as 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams are important. Candidates should be able to assess and mitigate risks using tools like FMEA and have expertise in assessing measurement systems, including Gage R&R studies. The ability to read and interpret part drawings, understand GDT, and lead strategies for addressing quality issues in OEM products is necessary.

Strong documentation and reporting skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and problem-solving skills are also essential.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality management, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) are beneficial.
  • Previous experience in quality engineering within manufacturing, preferably in regulated industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices, or electronics.
