Experienced Mold Makers:
Take the Next Step Without Leaving the Bench Behind

Micron Solutions is conducting a nationwide search for an experienced Injection Mold Tooling Manager to provide hands-on technical leadership for our injection molding tooling operations in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

You do not need to currently hold a Manager title to be considered.

We are looking for a mold-making expert first and a manager second. The ideal candidate has built their career designing, building, repairing, fitting, modifying, and troubleshooting injection molds and still enjoys being actively involved in tooling work today.

This role is intended for a tooling professional who wants to remain closely connected to the work itself.

You will spend a significant portion of your time:
  • Working directly with Mold Makers and Tool Room personnel
  • Diagnosing mold-related production and quality issues
  • Supporting mold repairs, modifications, and troubleshooting efforts
  • Participating in mold trials, qualifications, and production support
  • Identifying opportunities to improve mold reliability, tool life, and performance
  • Providing technical leadership through experience and hands-on problem solving
  • If you are seeking a primarily administrative, project management, or office-based management role, this position is unlikely to be the right fit.

Our injection molding operations include presses ranging from 55 to 300 tons, supporting commercial, engineering, and technical applications.

    What You'll Do
  • Serve as the technical expert for injection mold tooling, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and modification.
  • Diagnose complex mold-related production and part-quality issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Remain actively involved in mold repair, fitting, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Partner directly with Mold Makers, Process Technicians, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to resolve tooling challenges.
  • Provide technical direction, coaching, and mentorship to Tool Room personnel.
  • Coordinate new mold builds, repairs, preventive maintenance activities, engineering changes, and outside tooling work.
  • Review mold designs and provide practical mold-making and DFM input.
  • Support mold trials, qualification, validation, and production release activities.
  • Identify and eliminate recurring causes of tooling failures, scrap, downtime, and quality issues.
  • Drive improvements in mold reliability, performance, maintainability, and tool life.
  • Prioritize Tool Room projects and resources to support production requirements.
  • Ensure critical tooling issues are addressed quickly and effectively.
  • Help establish best practices for mold maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Qualifications

    What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of hands-on injection mold making or injection mold tooling experience.
  • Extensive experience building, repairing, maintaining, modifying, fitting, assembling, and troubleshooting injection molds.
  • Strong knowledge of mold construction, shutoffs, parting lines, fitting, cooling systems, venting, ejection systems, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to independently diagnose mold-related performance and part-quality issues.
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
  • Hands-on knowledge of mold-making processes including CNC machining, EDM, milling, grinding, and turning.
  • Must be willing and able to remain actively involved in tooling troubleshooting, repair planning, mold qualification, and manufacturing-floor support.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Additional Experience We Value
  • Hot runner systems and complex injection mold tooling.
  • Commercial and engineering-grade thermoplastic resins.
  • New mold builds and coordination with outside tool shops.
  • Mold trials, validation, qualification, and new product introduction.
  • Tool & Die, Mold Making, Journeyman, or Apprenticeship certification.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical direction to other Mold Makers.
  • Medical device or regulated manufacturing experience.
  • Who Will Be Most Successful Here?

The strongest candidates will be individuals who:

  • Built their careers as Mold Makers, Tool & Die Makers, Tool Room Leads, or Tooling Engineers
  • Enjoy solving difficult mold and production challenges
  • Prefer spending time in the Tool Room and on the manufacturing floor rather than behind a desk
