Family Support Worker, Support and Stabilization – Fitchburg

Family Support and Stabilization (FSS) provides services to families that receive support from the Department of Children and Families, with the intent to strengthen parenting capacity, improve family dynamics, ensure children's safety, prevent out‑of‑home placement and assist a successful reunification process. FSS assists families learning and getting connected to appropriate community services, including mental health and substance use programs for all family members.

Job Summary

Provide quantity and quality of services to families involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in accordance with specific FSS models (Crianza Familiar, Nuestra Familia, Comprehensive, Family Stabilization). Work with clients and/or parent/caregiver(s) to achieve goals determined by DCF and assist in improving parenting skills, positive discipline, routine development, and cultural acculturation challenges. Support parents in identifying and utilizing community resources, and assist in navigating public systems such as transportation, Social Security, public housing, etc.

Provide transportation as needed and offer additional visits and wrap‑around services per model.

Responsibilities
  • Work with clients and parents to achieve goals set by DCF.
  • Assist parents in improving parenting skills and reducing behaviors that adversely affect child safety.
  • Provide information on positive discipline, limit setting, and routine development.
  • Help families of diverse ethnic backgrounds manage acculturation stress.
  • Support parents in accessing community resources and public systems.
  • Transport clients in own vehicle as needed.
  • Provide additional visits and wrap‑around services as required.
  • Be flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends.
  • Act as a mentor for youth, parent or caregiver as needed.
  • Collaborate with clinicians on safety, welfare, and medical needs.
  • Engage with mental health providers, DCF social workers, schools, law enforcement, and other community providers.
  • Participate in DCF meetings, utilization reviews, and maintain detailed records.
  • Maintain regular communication with the DCF team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field or in progress (e.g., social work, psychology).
  • Two years experience working with youth and families.
  • Experience navigating child/family‑serving systems and advocating for families.
  • Demonstrated innovative, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community agencies.
  • Valid driver’s license and available vehicle.
