Summary of Position

The Vintage European Auto Technician is a highly skilled automotive professional who utilizes technical knowledge, diagnostic ability, and independent problem-solving to assemble, enhance, repair, and validate complex vehicle systems. This role involves working across all major vehicle subsystems such as mechanical, electrical, fuel, and chassis, with advanced capability in testing, diagnostics, and custom integration work. The Technician may provide guidance, perform research, and recommend innovative solutions for unique challenges encountered on custom builds and project vehicles.

Expertise or strong aptitude in electrical systems, diagnostics, EFI, and Bosch fuel systems is considered a significant advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform full tear downs, repairs, assemblies, and upgrades to vehicles.
  • Collaborate effectively with body, fabrication, interior, and project management to ensure proper system integration. Recommend, research, and source OEM, aftermarket, and custom parts for project needs.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, and performance issues using advanced testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Use various types of electrical and mechanical diagnostic equipment to test, evaluate, and validate vehicle systems.
  • Perform comprehensive inspections of client vehicles, documenting all findings and recommended repairs.
  • Successfully install custom, add-on, and/or specialized equipment for each assigned vehicle after identifying the appropriate methods and locations.
  • Perform full component and subassembly tasks such as suspension, brakes, powertrain installation and removal, mounting and balancing tires, and interior installation/removal.
  • Perform quality inspections to company standards, including road testing vehicles to validate repairs, service, and/or upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of diagnostics, work performed, time, and materials.
  • Anticipate project needs, identifying potential challenges, parts requirements, or workflow impacts.
  • Follow all Kellymoss policies, shop procedures, and safety standards.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma required.
  • Formal technical training, or equivalent real-world experience in automotive technology, motorsports engineering, or high-level vehicle diagnostics.
  • Certification such as ASE is preferred.
  • Additional training in diagnostics, EFI systems, or Bosch fuel systems is highly valued.
Experience Required
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in motorsports, high-performance automotive, or specialty European shops. Experience with classic Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, VW/Audi, or vintage EFI systems is a major plus.
  • Experience working with, and proven understanding of, CIS fuel systems in addition to carburetors and electronic fuel injection in classic European Cars.
  • Able to diagnose, innovate, and elevate vehicle performance across mechanical, electrical, and fuel-management systems
  • A skilled problem-solver with a mechanical mindset and an obsession for precision
  • Bosch fuel-system experience is preferred and familiarity with MoTeC and MFI systems is a major plus.
  • Fabrication experience, desirable.
Competencies and Specific Skills Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of general automotive systems, restoration, and repair practices.
  • Advanced ability in diagnostics such as electrical, mechanical, fuel, and vehicle performance.
  • Ability to install, repair, and assemble components across multiple vehicle systems, including custom and performance-enhanced parts.
  • Possess and supply a tool set in a quantity and quality commensurate with the anticipated vehicles and workload.
  • High attention to detail with commitment to craftsmanship and quality.
  • Ability to anticipate project needs, identify resources, and work independently.
  • Ability to research and source specialized parts and materials.
  • Ability to understand interrelated workflows and adapt work accordingly.
  • Ability to evaluate engine and system performance data and apply corrective action.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license for conducting test drives.
