Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Resident Engineer (RE), perform a variety of engineering duties, including monitoring contract compliance, reviewing construction submittals, scheduling and mentoring inspection staff, and serving as the primary contact for contractors and ADOT personnel on construction projects.
Job Duties- Direct, coordinate, and monitor work activities assigned to team members.
- Use a state vehicle in the course of job duties and review plans, standards, and policies to ensure compliance with ADOT specifications and federal and state regulations.
- Confirm and verify all quantities and measurements related to work activities and prepare documentation for monthly estimates.
- Consult with contractors and agency personnel to resolve construction-related issues, escalating as necessary.
- Assist with winter weather emergencies and other emergencies, including dispatch communication and road block/traffic control during inclement weather.
- Extensive knowledge of highway construction project inspections, surveys, materials testing, and documentation.
- Work management: analyze and evaluate engineering data, federal and state statutes, agency standards, policies, and procedures.
- Advanced mathematics and principles of civil engineering applicable to highway maintenance and construction.
- Analyzing and evaluating engineering data.

- Oral and written communication.
- Time management and interpersonal relations with contractors, government agencies, and agency staff.
- Proficiency with Google programs and products.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate full-spectrum work activities.
- Maintain effective oral and written communication with diverse individuals and situations.
- Operate a computer and utilize software related to construction plans and specifications.
- Analyze and evaluate roadway and supporting features related to highway construction.
- Organize and prioritize work assignments, evaluate program goals, cost and budget data, material performance, work methods, as‑built plans, and construction standards.
- Interpret technical engineering documents and maintain good interpersonal relations with team members and ADOT staff.
- Experience inspecting highway construction projects, hot mix and concrete plants, and performing administrative or advanced engineering and construction records maintenance.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or a closely related profession may substitute for the required experience.
- ACI – American Concrete Institute Certification.
- ATTI – Arizona Technical Testing Institute Certifications.
- Valid driver’s license and required training for state business vehicle use.
- Completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify) for all newly hired state employees.
