Chaplain - Flagstaff, AZ at Northern Arizona Healthcare
. This position is located onsite.
The Chaplain, under the direction of the Chaplain Manager, provides support to patients and families from all spiritual, religious, and humanistic paths, as well as staff. S/he may serve pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families.
Responsibilities Spiritual Care- Provides a calming and supportive presence at all times.
- Present with patients, patients’ family, and caregivers during the end‑of‑life situations.
- Assesses patients/families for spiritual care needs and matches them with appropriate spiritual support.
- Provides supportive spiritual care to people facing personal crises such as death of a child, suicide, drug overdose, mental health issues, substance dependency, serious illness, and acute trauma.
- Serves as a member of the Palliative Care Team, providing spiritual care assessment and support.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams for patient/family support and service recovery.
- Trains and supports relief Chaplains, Chaplain Assistants, Native Healers, and volunteers.
- Serves as a Chaplain Services team member and collaborates and shares information to enhance patient care.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate spiritual care to all people.
- Shares on‑call and holiday coverage.
- Attends Palliative Care rounds and meetings.
- Documents in EMR to provide information addressing patient and family spiritual care issues, assisting the Palliative Care team in providing comprehensive supportive care.
- Provides sacramental support upon request.
- Attends mandatory Chaplain Service quarterly meetings.
- Participates in team meetings, ongoing training, and collaboration for process improvement.
- Participates as an interdisciplinary team member, integrating goals and insights, identifying spiritual care plans and goals, and documenting and maintaining shared resources.
- Reports any safety‑related incidents in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety‑related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work safely.
- Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations, statutes, and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
- Ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up‑to‑date and valid prior to expiration dates when required for the position.
- Completes all company mandatory modules and required job‑specific training within the specified time frame.
- High School Diploma or GED – Required
- Graduate theological, divinity, or pastoral care degree from a university accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) – Preferred
- Ministerial standing, oversight, or equivalent with a recognized ecclesiastical body (National Conference on Ministry to Armed Forces or Yearbook of American & Canadian Churches) – Preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience providing spiritual care to people of many different faiths and secular values – Required
- Experience providing spiritual care in a hospital setting to people from a variety of faith, cultural, and socially diverse backgrounds – Strongly preferred
- Formalized spiritual or pastoral care training provided by a faith community or ecclesiastical body – Required
- Spiritual care education, experience, and or training directly related to issues of death and dying – Required
- Conversational in Spanish, Navajo, Sign Language, or another second language – Preferred

Computers and other electronic devices are utilized throughout the organization and across departments. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, competence in using them, and basic software skills.
