Overview

The Mountain Bike Club Coach provides leadership, instruction, and supervision for student-athletes participating in the school’s mountain bike club. The coach is responsible for developing riders’ skills, promoting safety, fostering good sportsmanship, and building a positive, inclusive environment that aligns with school and district values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Organize, supervise, and coach all practices, rides, and competitions/events.
  • Teach mountain biking skills, bike handling, trail etiquette, and race strategies appropriate to the age and experience of students.
  • Emphasize safety by enforcing the use of proper gear, equipment checks, and risk management procedures.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and academic success.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, school administration, and student-athletes regarding schedules, expectations, and progress.
  • Manage logistics such as transportation, registration for events/races, and equipment needs in accordance with school policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all school district policies, NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) rules, and applicable safety guidelines.
  • Model and reinforce positive behavior and character development on and off the trail.
Qualifications
  • Experience in mountain biking (racing, coaching, or recreational) required.
  • Strong knowledge of mountain bike safety, maintenance, and trail etiquette.
  • Prior coaching or teaching experience preferred, especially with high school students.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain before season begins).
  • Ability to pass required background checks and meet district volunteer/coach requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Fall Season
  • Practices and rides after school hours and some weekends for competitions/events.
