The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping engineering strategy, leading major change programmes, driving continuous improvement initiatives and developing high-performing engineering teams. The Role As Head of Bus Fleet Engineering, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the engineering function, ensuring fleet availability, safety, reliability and compliance with all legislative requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and developing a large engineering function across multiple sites. Driving a culture of safety, customer focus and continuous improvement. Developing and implementing fleet maintenance, overhaul and engineering strategies. Managing significant operational and capital budgets. Delivering major engineering and business improvement projects. Leading industrial relations activity, employee engagement initiatives and workforce development. Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental and engineering standards.
Managing supplier relationships, warranties and commercial contracts. Monitoring and improving fleet performance, reliability and operational efficiency. Building succession plans and developing future engineering leadership capability.
The Person We are keen to speak with experienced engineering leaders who can demonstrate:
Significant management experience within a vehicle fleet engineering environment. Experience leading large engineering teams through change and continuous improvement programmes. Strong understanding of fleet maintenance, engineering operations and asset management. Experience managing budgets, resources and operational performance. Knowledge of health & safety, environmental and employment legislation. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. Experience working with Trade Unions and employee relations matters.
A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Management, supported by an engineering qualification. Experience delivering complex engineering projects. Highly Desirable Bus fleet engineering experience. Experience managing multi-site or multi-depot engineering operations. Chartered Engineer status or progression towards chartership.
