Hire Controller

About this Role

Are you an experienced Fleet Controller, Transport Planner or Fleet Operations Coordinator looking to take ownership of a large HGV hire fleet? As Fleet Controller within Dawsongroup EMC, you will be responsible for the efficient operation, allocation and optimisation of a 1,500 to 2,000 vehicle HGV fleet, ensuring maximum uptime, compliance and cost control across our hire business.

This is a pivotal operational role where you will balance fleet utilisation, regulatory compliance, transport coordination and telematics insight to keep our assets moving and our customers supported.

• Oversee scheduling, allocation and availability of HGVs to maximise fleet efficiency and utilisation.
• Manage day to day telematics and fleet systems, including Samsara configuration, asset tracking, defect workflows and performance reporting.
• Co-ordinate vehicle movements between depots, customers, workshops and dealers, including collections, deliveries and redeployments.
• Ensure full compliance with DVSA, FORS and O licence requirements, maintaining accurate fleet documentation and records.
• Collaborate with operations, customer service, dealers and suppliers to minimise downtime and respond quickly to breakdowns or disruptions.
• Use data and performance insight to drive continuous improvement, optimise fleet rotation and support cost-effective decision-making.

You’re organised, calm under pressure, and know your way around a hire contract. You enjoy dealing with people, solving problems, and getting things done.

• Experience in rental coordination, logistics or similar industries
• Strong admin and communication skills
• Confident working with customers and internal teams
• Ready to take ownership of paperwork, systems and scheduling
• Comfortable in a fast‑paced, operational environment
