What you'll be doing Responsibilities- Serve as the primary point of contact for transport and driver compliance, assisting Transport Managers in upholding operator licence undertakings and fostering a culture of adherence at site level.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor fleet compliance, provide operational support, and hold structured update meetings with site leaders and supervisors to address issues and share best practices.
- Oversee and support site staff in maintaining accurate, up-to-date vehicle and driver records, ensuring all systems are promptly and accurately updated to meet compliance standards.
- Facilitate planned maintenance events for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and ancillary equipment, while coordinating tachograph vehicle unit (VU) and driver card downloads, infringement reporting, and corrective actions.
- Ensure drivers complete pre‑use checks and defect reporting via our app‑based system, promoting timely submissions and resolutions to maintain high compliance levels.
- Deliver driver responsibility briefings, training, inductions, and toolbox talks—both through e‑learning platforms and face‑to‑face sessions—covering company policies, legislation, and transport‑related competencies.
- Manage driving licence checks, permit‑to‑drive renewals, Driver CPC (DCPC) training, and other relevant qualifications to uphold driver competence and compliance KPIs.
- Perform regular spot checks on vehicle roadworthiness and weight for the commercial fleet, alongside random audits to identify and mitigate risks.
- Report all near‑miss events promptly and contribute to site visit and meeting reports to track progress against departmental KPIs.
- Undertake additional duties related to fleet disciplines as needed, always prioritising safety, accuracy, and efficiency in your work.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in vehicle fleet operations and a solid understanding of relevant UK legislative requirements, including Operator Licence undertakings.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage with colleagues at all levels.
- Strong presentation skills for delivering briefings, training sessions, toolbox talks, and inductions.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Well‑developed organisational skills to prioritise workloads and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A full, clean UK driving licence (essential for regular site visits across Scotland).
- Holder of (or willingness to work towards) a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) or CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport).
- Category C (or above) driving licence.
