We are seeking a high-calibre Senior HGV Technician / Deputy Fleet Engineer to join their Middlewich-based engineering team. This role is designed for a technical expert who is ready to step into a leadership capacity, working directly alongside the Fleet Engineer to manage bespoke equipment and drive workshop excellence.

- You will be instrumental in maintaining a diverse and complex fleet of trucks and trailers.
- This is a "working lead" position, combining hands-on technical mastery with supervisory responsibilities.
- As Deputy Fleet Engineer, you will serve as the right hand to the Fleet Engineer, ensuring operational continuity and driving continuous improvement across all workshop activities.
- Your technical expertise will be matched by your ability to mentor junior technicians, coordinate maintenance schedules, and maintain the exacting standards required in modern commercial vehicle operations.
- Workshop Leadership:
Supervise and work alongside a dedicated team of three technicians, ensuring the highest standards of repair. - Foster a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous professional development within your team.
- Planning & Capacity:
Agree on workshop schedules and capacity with the Maintenance desk for up to 6 weeks in advance. Strategic planning ensures optimal resource utilisation and minimises vehicle downtime. - Quality Assurance:
Conduct pre-work inspections to create worksheets and post-work quality checks to ensure fleet integrity. Your attention to detail will be crucial in maintaining compliance and operational safety. - Fleet Management Support:
Act as the Deputy for the Fleet Engineer during absences; attend weekly huddle meetings to discuss future maintenance programmes and strategic initiatives. - Third-Party Oversight:
Carry out quality inspections for work completed by third-party service providers. Ensure external contractors meet the organisation's exacting standards. - Parts Management:
Supervise and monitor the parts stores to ensure operational efficiency. Maintain optimal stock levels and implement cost-effective procurement strategies.
- We are seeking an exceptional candidate who combines technical excellence with leadership capabilities and a commitment to regulatory compliance. - Licensing:
You MUST hold a valid HGV C+E Licence for this role. This is a nonnegotiable requirement for the position. - Experience:
Minimum of 10 years' experience in a Senior HGV Technician role with demonstrable experience managing a team and mentoring junior staff. - Qualifications:
NVQ/City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent). Professional qualifications demonstrate your commitment to industry standards. - Compliance Mindset: A deep understanding of transport law and a "compliance is a must" attitude. You recognise that safety and regulatory adherence are non-negotiable aspects of professional vehicle maintenance.

Qualifications:
IRTE membership would be a distinct advantage;
Transport CPC qualification;
Experience with bespoke vehicle modifications;
Knowledge of fleet management systems.
