Position SummaryProvides comprehensive preoperative evaluations and medical clearances for surgical patients. The NP collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists and other healthcare providers to optimize patients’ medical conditions before surgery, ensuring patient safety and minimizing perioperative risks. Nurses deliver quality care through evidence‑based practice focusing on excellent outcomes and patient experience within the framework of Shared Governance.
Primary Position Responsibilities- Oversight and responsibility for staffing and operations.
- Perform thorough pre‑operative assessment.
- Order investigations per surgical protocol and interpret laboratory tests, ECGs, imaging, and other diagnostic evaluations.
- Identify potential anesthesia or surgical risks and coordinate with anesthesia and surgical teams for management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to facilitate timely surgical clearances.
- Provide safe patient care.
Minimum Education
:
Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Preferred Education
:
Doctorate in Nursing.
Minimum Years of Experience
:
Five years clinical nursing experience.
Preferred Experience
:
Two years of clinical experience as an NP, preferably in pre‑admission testing, perioperative care, internal medicine, or acute care.
Required Licensure/Certification
:
Current NJ RN licensure and national certification as a nurse practitioner (e.g., FNP, ANP, AGNP) and BLS.
Preferred Certification
:
Certification in a specialty.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
:
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills; excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration abilities; proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation; ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships; knowledge of perioperative risk assessment and management principles.
