Registered Practical Nurse
Specialized Seniors Care is an acute medicine unit. This 34‑bed unit cares for patients over 65 years of age with geriatric syndromes and acute illness. Our aim is to enhance or maintain the health status and quality of life of older adults who have complex medical issues. The team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered practical nurses, patient care assistants, behavioural support therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, elder life specialists, geriatricians, geriatric psychologists, discharge planners, social workers, respiratory therapists, speech‑language pathologists, unit clerks, chaplains, and volunteers.
Each member has a specific role to play to ensure seamless integration of care, and together we strive to provide exceptional care to each patient and family.
As the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) you are a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the organizational philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the College of Nurses (CNO), and all relevant legislation.
Qualifications- Registered Practical Nursing Diploma or equivalent education to practice at full scope
- Completion of a recognized Medication Administration Course
- Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Sound knowledge of nursing process and professional responsibilities
- Membership in a professional association specific to nursing service area
- Ability to work independently within scope of practice
- Computer literacy in current software applications
- Sound problem‑solving, communication, conflict resolution, and decision‑making skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development for self and others
- Commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service concepts
- Ability to collaborate with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong inter‑professional model of care
