Job Purpose And Focus
The Lead Teacher for GSRP is responsible for the planning, supervision and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood program, and meeting the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of children in the Great Start Readiness Program.

Job Purpose And Focus
The Lead Teacher for GSRP is responsible for the planning, supervision and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood program, and meeting the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of children in the Great Start Readiness Program.
Essential Qualifications And Requirements
- A valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement. A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching.
- Valid and current CPR and First Aid certification
- Successful criminal history check
- Effective communications skills
- Warm and fair attitude toward children
- Ability to exercise tact and good judgment
- Be available for professional development
This is a school year position that works 37.5 hours per week for 32 weeks per year. Employment is with the contract company GECS. Rate of pay is $25 per hour and includes single health coverage.
PERFORMANCE RESONSIBILITIES
- Plans individual and group activities to stimulate optimal growth in all domains.
- Develops and uses instructional materials aligned with High Scope curriculum
- Maintains the confidentiality of each child and family, and respects the culture and background each family served.
- Uses the developmental screenings and child observation assessments as required to determine each child’s development and growth in all domains
- Analyzes data and utilizes data for planning instruction and reporting results to program administrators and parents
- Provides a welcoming, nurturing and supportive climate to establish and reinforce age appropriate social skills.
- Assesses families’ needs and assists with follow up.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of children’s work.
- Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs of children in communication skills, health habits, physical skills and development of self-concept.
- Utilizes Child Plus and other program applications as required to document attendance, meal counts, communication, etc.
- Maintains a routine schedule of data collection for child assessment including child observations, collection of anecdotal notes, and demonstration of skills to measure children’s growth; completes the child assessments required for the program in a timely, complete manner.
- Plans and coordinates the work for Associate Teacher, Classroom Support, parents/guardians/caregivers, students and volunteers in the GSRP Classroom.
- Assists in the orientation and training of staff and volunteers in the room.
- Communicates regularly with parents by means of a newsletter, notes, phone calls, home visits and individual parent/guardian/caregiver conferences.
- Interprets school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual child’s need and the school’s role in the child’s learning and growth.
- Promotes parent/guardian/caregiver involvement in education activities provided for their children and participation in volunteering in the classroom or in other activities.
- Participates in staff and center team meetings.
- Participates in required professional development hours
- Is the primary caregiver and is responsible for active supervision of children at all times.
- Understands and implements the program’s MTSS/Positive Behavior Climate strategies and model consistently.
