  • Master's Degree in Education with Special Education endorsement and course work in educational administrion, special education programming required
  • Valid Michigan Special Education Supervisor certificate preferred
  • Valid Michigan School Administrator certificate preferred
  • Valid elementary and/or secondary Michigan teaching certificate with at least 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Previous administrative or leadership experience preferred
  • Training in, and experience with, effective instructional strategies and behavioral interventions
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working cooperatively with others including staff, teachers, students and community stakeholders
  • Experience with Catamaran, corrective action plans, and monitoring activities preferred
  • Facilitate and provide leadership to the IEP Team in identifying the range of placement options, determining the least restrictive environment, progress monitoring, and coordinating school-based implementation of the IEPs
  • Review IEP’s and assist teachers in implementing best practices in IEP development and implementation for academic improvement and compliance with State and Federal Law
  • Assist HR in the review, selection, and placement of Special Education personnel
  • Assist the Leadership Team, IEP Facilitators and Ancillary Staff with IEP meetings for review, administrative placements, and manifestation determination hearings
  • Coordinate with Special Education Team/Staff to ensure all discipline documents are completed in a timely manner according to state, local, and school policies and procedures
  • Meet with parents and students to assist in the resolution of school-related concerns
  • Serve as a resource person to Special Education program staff, ancillary staff, principals, and community
  • Provide professional development through in-service training and individual support to Special Education Teachers, paraprofessionals, and ancillary staff
  • Supervise and coordinate home instruction for homebound and hospitalized students
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues such as changes in federal and local special education policy
  • Facilitate workshops/meetings for parents, as well as identify resources for parents of students with disabilities/PAC-Parent Advisory Committee
  • Facilitate Project Find, Early On, Early Childhood and Elementary services for students with disabilities
  • Facilitate the District ESOL program
  • Executes other duties, assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services
  • An advanced understanding of students with autism, developmental delay, specific learning disorder, and emotional-social disorder
  • Extensive background in compliant IDEA, State & Local special education process, policies and procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
