Job Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the school principal, provide an education program for elementary students. Demonstrate high ethical standards, professionalism, and serve as a positive role model for all students.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements
  • Valid teacher certification for assignment with verifying transcripts
  • Meets the state definition of highly qualified
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the assessment of learning
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including meaning, spelling, and grammar
  • Knowledge of curriculum and content for the assignment
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods
  • Ability to work with the building principal to develop budget and fiscal recommendations
  • Positive attitude, patience, reliability, problem‑solving, diplomacy and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of individuals

Essential Functions & Representative Duties
  • Organize the classroom to provide an effective teaching/learning climate
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate them to students
  • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Collaborate with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons and activities
  • Consult with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic issues
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
  • Monitor safe use of equipment and materials
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records required by law and district policy
  • Participate in professional development, conferences, and workshops
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and experiential learning activities
  • Provide disabled students with assistive devices and supportive technology
  • Select, order, and inventory classroom supplies and materials
  • Support extracurricular activities and guide students in learning from them
  • Assist teachers in developing lesson plans using district curriculum and standards
  • Prepare written lesson plans for substitute teachers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment

Wages and benefits are outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Board of Education.

Work Environment

Must be able to work within varying degrees of noise and activity. Flexibility, patience, self‑motivation, and the ability to complete tasks without direct supervision are required. Must work toward district goals.
