Position Summary

The Senior Network Engineer (SNE) is responsible for the design, implementation, security, operational reliability, and continuous improvement of the College's mission‑critical network infrastructure across campus and cloud environments. The SNE ensures the continual availability of the systems and services while coordinating maintenance and service windows with the College community.

The SNE functions as a subject matter expert (SME) for network technologies, supports incident response efforts, and ensures high availability of core services through proactive monitoring, structured change management, and system lifecycle planning. The SNE collaborates closely with peers across ITS, internal college stakeholders, and external partners to ensure a secure, resilient, and scalable network foundation.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Senior Network Engineer acts as a technical lead for network and security engineering decisions and contributes to architectural planning. The role does not have direct supervisory responsibility but may guide and mentor technical staff and coordinate work across teams during projects and incidents.

Minimum Requirements

Directly related experience (may be earned concurrently) in the following areas:

Five (5) years experience with network infrastructure configuration and maintenance within a large network infrastructure environment.
One (1) year experience with system administration on Linux based systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar) and Microsoft Windows based systems

Must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to accomplish the essential duties and major accountability of the position.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Possession of a Bachelor's degree in a computer/network/technical or related field.

Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Juniper Enterprise Routing and Switching, Professional (JNCIP‑ENT) or equivalent or more advanced certification from a different network manufacturer.

Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or Juniper Enterprise Routing and Switching, Expert (JNCIE‑ENT) or equivalent certification from a different manufacturer.

Experience in managing a network infrastructure in a Multi‑homed network environment.

Experience in managing a Multiprotocol Label Switching network (MPLS).

Experience in managing Fortinet firewalls, including Fortinet Secure SD‑WAN.

Experience managing a Wide Area Network (WAN).

Experience working with Packetfence or other Network Access Control (NAC) solution.

Experience working in an educational organization.

Experience administering Zoom Phone system.

Experience administering a 3CX soft‑PBX.

Experience administering Active Directory.

Experience in a virtual infrastructure environment such as VMware or Hyper‑V.

Experience supporting identity‑integrated networking involving Microsoft Entra and Google Workspace authentication flows.

Experience administering Google G‑Suite for Education.

Experience configuring and working with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and other advanced routing techniques.

Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve difficult network and system related problems using troubleshooting and decision making.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Three (3) years' experience with system administration on Linux based systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar).

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Requires frequent off‑hours configuration and installation of servers, network devices, security appliances, and related components.
