Position: Tenure-Track, Rank Open Faculty in Collaborative Special Education

The University of North Alabama’s College of Education & Human Sciences is accepting applications for the position of Tenure-Track, Rank Open faculty of Collaborative Special Education in the Department of Teaching, Learning, & Leadership. We are seeking a collegial candidate to join our team who will work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, students, university colleagues, and school/community partners.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct scholarly work and research, and engage in a variety of service activities. Undergraduate and graduate programs include:
Collaborative Special Education K-6 and 6-12;
Elementary Education (K-6); and Early Childhood (P-3). Salary will be commensurate with degree, rank, and experience. Appointment will be effective Fall 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled.

Responsibilities:
  • Support undergraduate collaborative program (dual K-6 certification in both Elementary and Special Education) and our online Special Education graduate program (K-6 and/or 6-12);
  • Teach in-person and online courses in undergraduate and graduate programs;
  • Advise teacher education students for program requirements and coursework;
  • Engage in service initiatives, including active and involved membership and leadership roles in department, college, and university committees;
  • Active involvement in research, scholarly activities, and professional development;
  • Supervise collaborative program interns;
  • Build positive and collaborative relationships and experiential learning opportunities with school and community partners;
  • Maintain an active on-campus presence to support students, faculty, and programs;
  • Foster and uphold a supportive, professional and collegial work environment;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the needs of the program, department, college, and university.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Earned doctorate in special education from an accredited university is required (ABD status will be considered);
  • Minimum of three years of successful public school teaching experience in special education at the K-6 or K-12 grade levels is required;
  • Experience teaching at the college/university level is required;
  • Experience in and/or the ability to deliver face-to-face and online instruction is required;
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of current research and evidence-based practices in the field of special education is required;
  • Ability to work effectively with P-12 students as well as P-12 schools and administrators is required;
  • Experience with assessment in special education and/or teaching students with high-incidence disabilities is required;
  • Experience or interest in directing student research and/or advising student clubs/organizations is preferred;
  • Experience supervising interns and/or supporting field experiences in P-6 settings is preferred.

Electronic copies of unofficial/official transcripts may also be requested to be sent to employment. If electronic copies of transcripts are unavailable, hard copies must be sent to:
Human Resources, One Harrison Plaza, UNA Box 5043, Florence, AL, 35632 or brought to 601 Cramer Way, Room 226. Official transcripts must be sent directly to HR from the issuing school via email or postal mail to be considered official. Transcripts with a designation of “Issued to Student”, or with the student name listed as the recipient will not be considered official.

Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment, but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
