We are looking for a Labor and Delivery (L&D) Nurse Manager with leadership role responsible for the 24/7 operations, quality of patient care, and staff management within the labor and delivery unit of a hospital or birthing center. This position blends clinical expertise with administrative duties to ensure a safe and supportive environment for mothers and newborns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Oversight:
    Manage the daily workflow, including staffing, payroll, and resource allocation to ensure adequate coverage and efficiency.
  • Clinical Leadership:
    Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff, ensuring that high standards of patient care are maintained and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements (such as The Joint Commission and AWHONN standards) is met.
  • Quality Improvement:
    Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives, safety protocols, and performance metrics (e.g., C-section rates, patient satisfaction, hemorrhage protocols) to drive positive clinical outcomes.
  • Staff Management:
    Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and performance evaluation of nursing staff. This includes mentorship, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Financial Management:
    Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure cost-effective utilization of supplies and resources.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    Act as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, midwives, and hospital administration to ensure seamless coordination of care across departments like the NICU, anesthesia, and perioperative services.
Typical Qualifications
  • Education:

    A Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) is typically required, with a Master's degree in Nursing or a related field often preferred.
  • Experience:

    A minimum of 2-4 years of recent clinical experience in an L&D setting is necessary, with prior experience in a leadership, charge nurse, or supervisory role preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications are required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certifications are often required within a specified timeframe (e.g., six months of hire).
