Overview
Adult Probation Officer position at Pinal County Superior Court changes lives daily. Probation officers supervise casework services to probationers under direction of the Superior Court, performing case management, risk assessment, court reporting, and enforcement.
Responsibilities- Supervise and observe compliance with conditions of probation, including directing and counseling probationers and conducting field contacts (home, work, treatment facilities, community restitution or jail).
- Maintain complete identification records for probationers, including arrest reports, contact notes, case plans, and case files; prepare written reports for the court.
- Build relationships to encourage compliance with case plans and conditions of probation through frequent telephone contacts and residential contacts.
- Direct or refer probationers to community resources and treatments based on assessments, behaviors, and conditions of probation.
- Participate in case review conferences to determine whether changes in supervision level are warranted.
- Perform searches, breathalyzers/urinalysis collection, and located absconders; serve warrants, make arrests, and bring persons before the court who are on probation, including defaulting probationers facing revocation.
- Appear and testify in court; monitor payment of restitution and probation fees; ensure victims’ notification rights are provided according to statutory requirements.
- Respond defensively in confrontational situations with probationers or others using defensive tactics taught at the Defensive Tactics Safety Training Academy.
- Complete defensive tactics proficiency testing and annual refresher training; maintain certificate of successful completion of defensive tactics training.
- Investigate cases referred to the officer and write reports to the court.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral or social science, or related field.
- Minimum age 21 and U.S. citizenship per Arizona Supreme Court Order # 2003-92.
- Arizona residents must provide a valid Arizona driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of background/reference checks, polygraph and/or drug testing, and pre‑employment psychological examinations.
- Complete 40‑hour Defensive Tactics Training Academy within 120 days of employment.
- Maintain certificate of successful completion of defensive tactics training and complete eight hours of refresher training annually.
- Complete Probation Certification Academy and Intensive Probation Institute within first 12 months if assigned.
Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, sit; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to work in field and office settings; driving statewide; rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and possible overtime.
