About the Role

The EHS Engineer, Level 3, will report to the EHS Manager and play a crucial role in advancing AESC’s mission to lead in full-value-chain battery solutions for a sustainable future. Responsibilities include developing and implementing procedures, guidelines, and recommended equipment to promote and ensure industrial safety and health.

What You Will Do
  • Support the development, implementation, and execution of MDS safety policies, requirements, and programs.
  • Maintain safety records and hazard tracking system data.
  • Review documents to verify compliance with safety policies and requirements.
  • Conduct system safety risk identification and management processes.
  • Evaluate safety documentation, system design, and baseline changes.
  • Review program-level system safety assessment reports for completeness and technical accuracy.
  • Verify that safety specifications, hazard mitigations, and requirements are met through review of verification evidence.
  • Conduct program reviews, meetings, and support system-level design reviews throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Assist in tracking and closing safety-related action items assigned during program reviews/meetings.
  • Conduct safety audits, report deficiencies, and perform follow‑ups to verify closure.
  • Participate in the development and review of safety risk assessments and obtain appropriate authority approvals.
  • Develop work instructions related to EHS.
  • Support safe conduct system demonstration activities.
  • Evaluate mission-specific safety risks, especially interactions with test events and other systems.
  • Assess test architecture for safety concerns; review test plans and procedures accordingly.
  • Support the development of Final Hazard Classification (FHC) detailed plans.
  • Participate in pre‑test reviews such as Test Planning Reviews (TPRs), daily status briefings, failure reviews, and mishap investigations.
  • Develop and publish hazard classification documentation.
  • Complete Department of Transportation documentation in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, industrial technology, or a related field.
  • 5 years of related professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and related improvement processes.
  • Ability to identify unsafe situations or potentially unsafe safety laws.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) processes.
  • Effective problem‑solving/root‑cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally with staff in all departments.
  • Experience working and leading a team across cultural and discipline boundaries.
  • Experience or willingness to work in a global context, understanding diverse international markets.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment with flexibility and adaptability.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office applications and conferencing systems.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards; ISO 14001 environmental standards.
  • Certification in IATF 16949 and VDA 6.3 (training provided for those not familiar).
  • Certification in ISO 14001 (training provided for those not familiar).
Nice to Have
  • Certified Safety Professional status.
  • Knowledge of battery manufacturing, EV manufacturing, or refinery operations.
  • Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience.
  • Experience with new model and equipment design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Previous EHS experience in a battery manufacturing facility.
  • High-volume manufacturing environment experience.
  • Start‑up experience.
Travel

Occasional domestic and international travel required.
