Job Description Summary

MUSC/Florence, SC seeks an experienced Lead Security Officer for a full‑time position to protect patients, staff, visitors, and facilities across the Pee Dee Division.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol facilities and grounds
  • Provide emergency assistance and response
  • Interact with patients, families, visitors, law enforcement, and correctional officers
  • Support MUSC Health staff with security and safety concerns
  • Complete detailed notes based on observations, conduct investigations and interviews, and write detailed reports regarding incidents and events
Education and Qualifications
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year relevant experience or appropriate education; preferred experience in healthcare security, corporate security, or law enforcement
  • Valid driver’s license in the State of SC
  • Completion of IAHSS Basic Certification within six (6) months of hire (preferred)
  • BLS Certification required
Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism
  • Provide high level of customer service through engagement with others
  • Wear and don personal protective equipment (gloves, face shields, goggles, gowns, masks, powered air‑purifying respirator, ballistic vest if necessary)
  • Use radio equipment for communications
  • Respond quickly to emergent situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including typing accurate reports
  • Knowledge of crime prevention strategies and verbal/non‑verbal de‑escalation tactics
  • Use of restraints and defense techniques as trained (Handle with Care Crisis De‑escalation course, 16 hours)
  • Knowledge of security practices for safeguarding people and property
  • Complete MUHA Security training requirements and perform Lead Security Officer duties
Physical Requirements

Up to 33% occasional; 34–66% frequent; 67–100% constant. Must stand, walk, sit; bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions; use both hands and legs; good finger dexterity; perform repetitive motions; maintain 20/40 vision corrected; work indoors and outdoors with seasonal changes; lift and carry objects weighing 20 pounds unassisted; lift from 36 inches to overhead or more than 15 pounds.

Must complete pre‑employment physical assessment provided by the MUSC Florence Physical Therapy department.
